6-Campus Crime

Yet another American community was grappling Tuesday with the aftermath of yet another deadly mass shooting, this time at Michigan State University. Three were killed and five were wounded. The incident, which unfolded across two campus buildings, has once again brought the issue of gun violence in educational institutions to the forefront of national discourse.

The shooting began at approximately 8:18 p.m. when the gunman, identified as 43-year-old Anthony Dwayne McRae, entered Berkey Hall and opened fire in a classroom. He then moved to the MSU Union building, where he continued his attack. The swift response from law enforcement included a shelter-in-place order and a campus-wide alert advising students to "run, hide, fight". Despite these measures, the gunman managed to kill three students and injure five others before taking his own life when confronted by police off-campus.

In the wake of the shooting, MSU canceled classes for the remainder of the week and relocated classes from the affected buildings for the rest of the semester. Vigils and protests against gun violence were held, with students and supporters gathering at the Michigan State Capitol to demand action on gun violence.

Dwayne McRae was described to be a mama's boy who became bitter, isolated, and "evil angry" after his mother died of a stroke. Dwayne's father stated, " Ever since my wife died, my son began to change".  McRae stopped taking care of himself and people claimed he looked like a "wolf man" because he let his hair grow out and didn't take care of his teeth.
